We have been travelling around Southeast Asia for over a year now. During this time, we learned some clever ways to beat the heat and the humidity.
Who wants to just lay in their hotel room with the air conditioner or fan if there is a whole world out there to see? So don’t let the heat get you down. We hope that these 6 tips will help you beat the heat.

6 Ways to beat the heat:
1. Wet Wipe
This is our favourite, and it’s a very effective way to deal with humidity. It’s working well for us, and we have been using it ever since we started travelling. We normally carry a packet of wet wipes in our camera bag or backpack. You don’t need a lot of wipes so you can just take a small packet. When you are out and are sweating or just very hot, take a wet wipe and wipe the parts of your body that are easily exposed like your legs, arms, face, back, etc. It will instantly make you feel better and refreshed.
2.Light & Easy Breathable Clothes
This is a very important thing that many people may overlook. In very hot countries it’s important to wear clothes that are light in weight and doesn’t have many layers. Pick clothes that aren’t too thick, and that doesn’t lay heavy on your body. Tip: Just because the clothes are short, it doesn’t mean it’s light and breathable. You can have short clothes that can make you very hot.

3.Body & Face Powder
This is an old school tip that I actually learned from my grandmother, but it’s very effective. It doesn’t make you feel cool, but it does stop you from sweating excessively. We recommend applying your sunscreen first, wait for it to get absorbed by your skin and then applying a thin layer of powder all of your body or the parts where you sweat the most. Body powder is very absorbent, reduces friction and acts as a skin protectant.
4. Use a Fan
We always carry a battery-powered fan or a hand fan with us, which isn’t too big and which is easy to carry around. This will provide you with that instant breath of cold air that your body will be craving in these hot and humid climates.

5. Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is the best way to beat the heat. Drink a lot of water, whether you are active or just enjoying your bed or the pool. Also take electrolytes, especially when you are very active. We find that while we are travelling, we are normally very active. We can each drink 2 litres of water a day, but we still feel dehydrated and energyless. Taking an electrolyte is just the pick me up we normally need. You just mix it with your water, and then you have the perfect drink to rehydrate you. You can find these electrolytes from most pharmacies.
6. Carry an Umbrella
This one may sound silly because why use an umbrella when it’s not raining, but you would be amazed at the difference it will make. This is something that we learned from the locals in Thailand. When you are planning a day in the sun, take your umbrella. The umbrella doesn’t just provide shade from the sun, but it also protects your skin. And if it starts to rain you will have your umbrella there and ready. Two birds with one stone Wink-Wink.
